What it smells like.

Oud is resinous wood at full strength: dark, dense, smoky, with a sharp medicinal edge at the top and a warm leathery depth underneath. It is the most polarising material in perfumery and the one people either love immediately or want nothing to do with.

It is a foundation, not an accent. Rose over oud is one of the great pairings and it is worth building a blend around. Understand what you are committing to, though: oud is long-lasting and unmistakable, it fills a room, and in a small office it will make the decision for everyone else too. Sample before you commit to a full bottle.

Oud forms when an agarwood tree responds to infection by soaking its heartwood in dark, fragrant resin. Only a fraction of wild trees ever produce it, which made the resinous wood more valuable by weight than almost any other natural material, and it is why nearly all modern oud notes, ours included, are recreations of the real thing.
