What it smells like.

Saffron is a warm, dry spice with a distinctive leathery softness and a faintly iodine, almost medicinal edge. It smells expensive and slightly strange, which is exactly why it is used.

It bridges spice and leather better than anything else and it is superb over oud and rose. It is dominant for a heart note, so it tends to define a blend rather than support it.
