Ambrette, the raw material

Base note · Musky

Ambrette.

Soft, warm musk with a pear-like sweetness.

How loudly it speaksClose to the skin

Our read on the material, not a measurement.

What it smells like.

Ambrette comes from musk mallow seed and it is the softest musk in common use: warm, slightly powdery, with a fruity sweetness that reads a little like pear or brandy. It is quiet and it sits very close to the skin.

It is used to make a fragrance feel like part of the wearer instead of a layer on top. Under florals it adds a soft, blurred finish; over woods it warms them without adding sweetness. It projects very little, which is the whole point of it.

A gentle musk. Makes a blend read as skin rather than scent.

Musky. Skin-like, smooth and quietly close to the wearer.

Pairs beautifully with.

We do not offer ambrette at the bench, but there are notes close to it that we do.
