Violet.
Powdery-soft petals that smooth fruit into something refined.
Our read on the material, not a measurement.
What it smells like.
Violet is powdery and soft, faintly sweet, with a green leafiness underneath the petals. It has a curious habit of appearing and disappearing on skin, which is a property of the material rather than a fault in the blend.
It is one of the most useful supporting notes here. Over strawberry or raspberry it turns bright fruit into something refined; under iris it adds a cosmetic, lipstick quality that reads as expensive. It is not a note that carries a fragrance. Give it a lead to support and it earns its place.
Violet flowers guard their scent: extracting it commercially has never been practical. The note was unlocked in the late 1800s when chemists isolated ionones, the molecules behind the flower's powdery smell, and violet has been a recreated note ever since. The leaf, extracted separately, gives the green side.
