What it smells like.

Carnation is a floral with spice built into it: soft petals over a distinct clove-like peppery heat. It smells slightly old-fashioned in the best way, and it bridges the gap between the floral and spicy families.

It gives a rose heart backbone and stops a soft floral becoming bland. It is assertive for a flower, so it is usually used in support of rose rather than as the lead.
