Freesia is a light floral with a peppery, faintly green edge and a clean, almost soapy brightness. It is delicate and modern and it has none of the heaviness of the white florals.
It is used to keep a floral heart fresh and to bridge citrus into flowers. It is easily overwhelmed, so it belongs with the quieter materials.
Freesia is what perfumers call a mute flower: it cannot be usefully extracted, so the airy, peppery-fresh smell is rebuilt from other materials. The recreation has been refined for decades, and a good freesia note is now one of the cleanest ways to make a floral smell recently watered.
