What it smells like.

Hedione is a modern aroma material rather than a plant extract, and it smells like the transparent part of jasmine with the heaviness removed: soft, floral, faintly citrus, and mostly luminous. Smelled by itself it is underwhelming. That is normal, and it is not a fault.

What it does is give a fragrance air. It spreads a blend out so it reads as open rather than dense, and it makes other florals smell more alive and less like a flavouring. Use it as a partner, never as the star: a heart built on hedione alone will smell like something is missing, because it is.

Hedione is a single synthetic molecule, first used in fine fragrance in the 1960s, and it changed how florals are built. On a blotter it is barely there: a watery, lemony shimmer. In a blend it makes everything around it breathe, which is why perfumers describe it as light rather than a smell.

In a blend.

Not a smell so much as an effect. Hedione makes a blend feel bigger and more natural. On its own it is almost nothing, which is the point.
