What it smells like.
Cypress is a cool, dry, resinous green: needles and sap rather than timber. It smells like standing among trees rather than like wood in a workshop, and there is nothing sweet about it.
It gives a woody blend fresh air and it keeps citrus alive longer than it otherwise would be. It has a known failure: against sharp berry notes it turns sour, which is why the studio does not put it with blackcurrant.
Cypress oil is distilled from the foliage and twigs of the Mediterranean cypress, the tall dark tree of Italian avenues and old cemeteries. It smells green, resinous and pine-adjacent, but quieter and drier, which makes it a forest note that never tips into air freshener.
