Marine (Aqua).
Cool, open air over water. Clean without soap.
Our read on the material, not a measurement.
What it smells like.
Marine is the smell of air near water rather than water itself: cool, slightly mineral, faintly salty. It reads as clean, but not the soapy clean of laundry. There is nothing sweet in it and nothing green, which is why it feels like open space more than a scent.
It is a lifting note. Over cedarwood or vetiver it makes a woody blend feel breathable, and it keeps citrus from turning sharp. It is also one of the quietest materials on the bench, so it disappears under anything loud. Put it with tuberose or coffee and you will not find it again.
In a blend.
Adds space. Marine makes a blend feel airy and uncrowded, which is useful over woods. It is easily buried, so pair it with quiet notes or you will lose it.
Fresh. Clean, airy scents with a crisp, uplifting feel.
Pairs beautifully with.
